My luggage is an important part of my life and I spend far too much time thinking about it. And then I started thinking “I wonder what the most sustainable luggage brands are?” And here we are.

When you travel as much as I do, it’s hard to get around plastic when looking for durability in my choice of luggage. Over the past decade I have had a number of luggage sets. I like my suitcases to be sleek and stylish but also just non-descript and functional.

This review is about hard-shell luggage, which is what I use when I travel for longer than a few days or to destinations that don’t require me to schlep around too much. Among the brands I’ve tried are American Tourister — which lost a rugby match against United Airlines — and Modo by Roncato, which I use most often and it serves me well — but there is nothing sustainable about the brand. The smallest one gets the most mileage so that’s why I chose to feature carry-on suitcases in this article. The medium-sized one is used for trips of about a week and the biggest one I use when travelling to shoot television and I need loads of extra clothes for the shoot.
